Strengthening logistics solutions for Danish industry

Finnlines, part of the Grimaldi Group, has expanded its weekly North Sea service by adding the Polish port of Gdynia as a new destination in its rotation. This strategic move strengthens the connection between Central Europe and the North Sea region – creating new opportunities for Danish companies in sectors such as wind energy, agriculture, and construction.

Although the route does not include a direct call in Denmark, it plays a central role in the broader Grimaldi network of shortsea and deepsea routes connecting Europe with North and South America, Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East.

“The new Gdynia connection enhances our ability to offer Danish customers access to a broader network combining shortsea and deepsea – with modern vessels, high capacity, and a lower carbon footprint. We are already seeing interest from industries with transport needs for heavy and oversized cargo. This is a great opportunity to move large components efficiently by sea and avoid both costs and congestion on the road.”
Henning Fries, Niels Winther Liner Agencies

The route is operated by three Finneco-class hybrid RoRo vessels, specially built to handle various cargo types – including BreakBulk and High & Heavy units such as agricultural and construction machinery. These modern vessels ensure safe and efficient handling of cargo that is too large or heavy for container transport.

To further support special cargo logistics, Finnlines is introducing new 80-foot mafi trailers with embedded rails – ideal for transporting railcars and other non-standard cargo. These solutions help reduce handling time, increase safety, and lower costs.

With its Green Lane solution, Finnlines also enables CO₂ emissions to be reduced by up to 90%, making sea transport both an economical and sustainable alternative to road freight.

At NWLA, we look forward to introducing these expanded opportunities to our Danish customers and project partners – and to continuing to connect Denmark to the world through the growing global network of the Grimaldi Group.
