EuroMed Service Expanded with Next‑Generation RoRo Tonnage

17. marts 2026

The arrival of Grande Svezia in Esbjerg, Friday 27th February, marks a significant capacity enhancement on the EuroMed corridor. With 220 meters in length, 38 meters in beam, and up to 14 configurable decks, the vessel represents the largest and most capable RoRo tonnage ever deployed on this route.

This next‑generation vessel is part of the Grimaldi Group’s investment in ten sister ships, five of which will enter the EuroMed service, contributing to higher frequency, improved flexibility and increased operational stability across the corridor.

For heavy and high cargo, Grande Svezia brings a step‑change: advanced ramp and deck constructions support up to 250 tonnes, ideal for machinery, industrial equipment, project cargo and high-volume goods that previously required multiple moves or road transport.

The vessel also features an enhanced sustainability profile. A 5 MWh battery system, shore‑power capability enabling zero‑emission port stays, approximately 2,500 m² of solar panels, and an ammonia‑ready engine design contribute to lower CO₂ emissions per transported unit and support long‑term environmental objectives.

With three monthly calls between Esbjerg and Southern Europe, the upgraded EuroMed connection provides shorter lead times, reduced transshipment risks and a more robust maritime alternative to long‑haul road transport.

Grande Svezia and her sister vessels increase overall capacity and create new operational opportunities as the fleet enters full rotation.
